Controlling hearing aids with the smartphone
Additional functions offer a plus in comfort
Hearing Aid Guide
Modern hearing aids are equipped with wireless interfaces that connect them to the smartphone (iPhone iOS and Android). The hearing aids can then be conveniently operated via the mobile phone. In addition, hearing aids can be linked to other devices with Bluetooth wireless technology, such as music systems and flat-screen TVs.
How you can benefit from the combination of hearing aids and smartphone
All hearing aids equipped with Bluetooth technology are suitable for connection to the smartphone. In addition, the manufacturer of your hearing aids must provide an App for operating the hearing aid. At KIND this App is called KINDiLink and is available free of charge for Apple and Android mobile devices.
The App allows you to conveniently control the hearing aids with your smartphone: for example, you can make settings on the hearing aids, such as adjusting volume and sound, and select hearing programs. The hearing programs can not only be changed, but can also be personalised in different listening environments via so-called geotagging. To do this, the App for your hearing aids uses the GPS location function of the smartphone. It allows you to save sound settings depending on your location. The next time you are in the same location, the App will automatically activate the appropriate personalised hearing program.
Pairing hearing aids and smartphone offers further advantages. If you play music on your phone, the sound can be transferred directly to the hearing aids. The sound can be adjusted via the app. The same applies to phone calls, which can also be routed to your hearing aids. The advantage: You understand your conversation partner perfectly, there is no disturbing background noise.
Instead of a smartphone: control hearing aids via remote control
The alternative if you do not want to control the hearing aids with your smartphone or do not have a modern mobile phone: The manufacturers of hearing solutions offer remote controls with which the hearing aids can also be operated and with which settings such as volume, sound and hearing program can be changed. The connection between the hearing aid and the remote control is usually also via Bluetooth.
Direct connection to television and music system
As mentioned before, modern hearing aids can also be connected to a flat-screen TV or a music system via Bluetooth. TV sound and music are then transmitted directly into the hearing aids, guaranteeing high sound quality and optimal understanding of dialogues. Your family and neighbours benefit from the fact that they are not disturbed by loud TV or music volume.
As the transmission is wireless, you are not restricted to move in the room. If you want to continue to be aware of your surroundings, switch the microphones of your hearing aids on while watching TV or listening to music.
